It doesn't just look cool, this reel still cranks and works! And it still has its original parts in tact, all the way to the internal gears. 
 
The roll slides onto the modified and polished spool hub. The removable side plate is held in place with a magnetic hub that seats with a clean, satisfying click. A real stainless steel fishing hook works as the keeper for the hanging side plate.
 
Mounted on a wood backplate with custom stainless bracket and hardware, this piece is part salvage, part fabrication, and part bathroom joke that actually works.
