This bench is built around a pair of heavy, antique cast iron fireplace andirons (fire dogs) used for the legs. Instead of holding up firewood in a hearth, they’ve been repurposed as the structural frame for a solid accent stool.
The Frame: Authentic vintage cast iron with a twisted square-bar lower stretcher and heavy drop-ring handles on the ends. It’s thick, stable, and has the kind of weathered patina you can't fake.
The Seat: A solid timber beam finished with a deep torch char to pull out the natural, high-contrast grain definition.
The Hardware: Locked down on the ends with custom-fabricated steel caps and exposed hex bolts.
It’s heavy, built like a castle, and works well as an entryway bench, mudroom stool, or a low accent piece.
