This one-of-a-kind shrunken head sculpture was hand-forged from 120+ year old reclaimed copper sheet roofing. Designed and created in the Colonial Metalworks shop, this piece was hammered, torched, stitched, and shaped into a haunting metal Tsantsa, each blow capturing the intensity and rawness of its transformation.
Material: The head is crafted from antique copper sheeting, repeatedly hammered and flame-treated to achieve natural darkened tones, no paints were used.
Hair: Made from stripped and salvaged copper cable pulled from a destroyed TIG welding torch lead. The silver hues? Just heat-altered copper.
Stitches: Aluminum cable originally used to ground a utility pole transformer torn apart by a tornado, also salvaged.
Bones: Real bones, origin unknown, but reclaimed.
Welding filler: Copper wire stripped from another old electrical component.
Stand: Heavy steel base with the copper hair anchored to the bone for secure display.
Every inch of this sculpture is made with intention, using reclaimed and repurposed materials wherever possible. It’s protected with a clear enamel to seal in the patina and prevent tarnish, so it’ll stay as grimly gorgeous as the day it was made.
